So I was thinking...
Wouldn't it be better for me to figure out what I see characters doing and the way the plot flows, versus what movie reviewers saw? I'm thinking I'll be looking for things different than what movie reviewers are looking at.... I'm just wondering if finding these elusive movie reviews are really what I need to be doing....

The New York Times and Vanity Fair
What a mix! So the newest crisis - where do we get movie reviews from the 1920s? I mean, I can't just look into the Weekend edition of the newspaper and look at the movie guides. Well I could, but only if someone kept such things from the 20s... not happening. So that leaves me with the issue of finding period articles and reviews discussing the movies I'm hoping to watch. So here's the ease of this so far:
Finding the history for the time period of whatever movies I'm trying to watch - EASY.
Finding copies of pirate (not pirated) movies - Not easy, but not impossible.
Finding the movie reviews from the time period that fits movies I was able to find - priceless. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
Otherwords, I think that this, quite honestly, will be one of my hardest points in the project. So first things first: lets find the movie reviews. THEN see which movies I can get my paws on. THEN look for history books. But since I already own history books on this time, easy. And I already own a few movies. I'm excited.
So for movie reviews. It was suggested that I use about 5 newspaper sources, at least. Also, Vanity Fair is a good one to use too. I know I can go through the library to get those. I have a feeling I'll be up on campus over summer more than I want. Hopefully I can get most of this stuff from the Cincinnati Public Library - so much easier to deal with.
So for movie reviews, I want to look at the following:
NEW YORK TIMES HISTORICAL
.... Upon looking, I'm finding.... nothing. Anywhere. Soo... more updates to come when I figure out where to find these 'historical' movie reviews.

Starting Out
I have been contemplating how I want to approach my summer. My current thought is to first, get all my bibliography done on all the movies and books I plan to view and examine.
Second, attempt to find reviews for each movie from the time period, so that I can see what the movies were thought of when they were first created.
Third, sort out movies and sections of books by years and events. I believe it will be beneficial to read what was going on in the world, and particularly in the US, during the years that each movie was made. Therefore, I want to read the history before reading the reviews or watching the movies, but watch the movies at the same time I'm researching the era, so that I do not confuse different movies with different historical events. Say, read about 1920-1925. Watch movies from 1920-1925. Read reviews of said movies. Move on to the years of 1926-1930, etc.
This should help me organize my thoughts as I go through the process. I can then do all my notes and reviews in chronological order, which I believe will be beneficial. Perhaps that is how I should write my paper, in chronological order. We shall see how this plays out. All will come with time.
